Island Expeditions: A South Isles-inspired evolution of MoP scenario? Ambitious.Īllied Races? 10 new playable races in one expansion, with unique and gimmicky racial abilities (like Dark Irons' mole machine)? Ambitious. Storyline: Making the Fourth War AND the Old Gods in one expansion? Ambitious. Say what you want about BfA, it was ambitious. How many patches besides 8.2 introduced two brand new zones?īlizzard also gets bonus points for their ambition. Patch 8.2 was also very well-received for introducing two brand new zones in Nazjatar and Mechagon, which remains unprecedented. Essences in 8.2 and Corruption in 8.3 were well-received. It's only the first half of the expansion that was hated. And while the Azerite system was hated for the first half of the expansion, BfA ultimately redeemed itself with Essences in 8.2 and Corrupted gear in 8.3. BfA has always been praised for its setting and narrative (excluding the faction war). I'm also team BfA, but i'm surprised at so many people picking it too. The Ruby Life Shrine and the Emereald Dream had a few neat tracks. Only the Kyrian hall had decent music.įor Dragonflight, I thought that the final boss room of Vault of the Incarnates with the humongous floating ring prisons was neat. I wasn't keen on the themes for most of them but conceptually it was cool. I liked being able to join a brand new faction, and they were advanced classes as you got some extra abilities. The Sylvanas fight at the end of Sanctum Domination where you are chasing her across the chains was cool. I also liked that the devs experimented with some fantasy weather conditions, like the rain of falling golden feathers in Bastion or the blood rain in Revendreth. Ardenweald was also nice though it was too blue. Zul'dazar music was nice.įor Shadowlands, I thought that the sky islands of Bastion with the golden fields and the blue anima tethers floating overhead and the hyperspace flightpaths looked cool. But hey, this moment of realization gave us DF, so I'm happy with that at least.Īll three expansions are equally shit with few redeeming factors.įor BFA, I liked Island Expeditions. I will say that S3 and S4 when they started to dial back on the forced content and just make the QOL good for everything the expansion became enjoyable to play, its just a shame they didn't take the alpha and beta feedback and do that for release and instead had to bleed subscribers throughout season 2 before pulling their heads out of their asses. All the zones were pretty mediocre and this expansion was a low point for the game. Shadowlands - speaking of flawed systems, let's go apeshit and come up with covenants, and then add some forced chores to get the recycled legendary effects from the previous two expansions. Ultimately, I don't think this expansion ever got over the flawed systems. Some additional negatives are that they wasted Nazjatar/Azshara and Ny'lotha/N'Zoth which could have been expansions on their own. Bolarus is probably the best city they have done - though, I hate the horde city and Zandalar as a zone is painful to me. I liked the random world drop epics and mounts. Drustvar is probably one of the best zones they've done story wise. Negative is Argus, I hate the zone and honestly, it could have been a Draenor sized expansion where Sargeras was the final boss.īfA was a solid expansion and would instantly receive a bump if you removed the systems aspect of the expansion. I played this expansion very casually due to stuff going on in real life which I'm sure is a reason why I view aspects of the expac more favorably than others. I liked the legendaries personally, but I understand why they (and AP) were problematic for people at the cutting edge of content. Artifact weapons were cool and well done as an expansion feature. Legion added M+ which has been very popular and successful. I honestly have not found anything I dislike with the expansion aside from the talent design being bad for PvP and PvP being paced poorly. PvP got solo shuffle which has long been requested by players. The zones are solid, professions are interesting. They do a good job not forcing you to participate in content you have no interest in, while providing ample content to do that does interest you. The expansion is rooted in WoW storylines that were never picked up at the end of previous expansions. Dragonflight gave us a new evergreen feature that has been highly successful.
